Intellectuals often become champions of the masses to achieve their own self-fulfillment. But this is a new phenomenon, since the elites ignore the intellectuals. What worried Gandhi most was the hardness of heart of the educated. They do not stop until they’re convinced they’ve convinced everyone they are right, since to their mind their truth can be the only truth. Intellectuals, artists are handmaidens of the powerful, no real concern for the lower classes, more likely disdain.
